La XXe Nuit du cinema [20th Night of Cinema]
18th Edition of the “Victoires” Awards, 28th October, 1965
Paris: Theatre Marigny, 1965. Original French program for La XXe Nuit du Cinema ceremony issued with the occasion of the 18th edition of the annual “Victoires” Film Awards, held on 28 October 1965 at Theatre Marigny, Paris, in the presence of Princess Grace of Monaco.
The “Victoires” were a precursor of the “Césars”, the French equivalent of the Academy Awards (Oscars). The award statuettes, the “Victoires”, were fashioned after Victory of Samothrace, and for 1965 they were presented by Gina Lollobrigida to actors such as Claudia Cardinale, Audrey Hepburn, Jean Marais, Marcello Mastroianni, Jean Moreau and Peter O’Toole. With musical performances by Cliff Richard and The Shadows.
9.25 x 12 inches, wrappers, 48 leaves. Illustrated, featuring advertisements for film equipment, television and radio, motor car companies, galleries, salons, and many others. The front wrapper reproduces a striking image of a woman dressed in the style of an 18th century Spanish Señora wearing a mantilla, and holding a mask decorated with fleurs-de-lis in her hand.
A very good copy.
