Breakfast At Tiffany's - Truman Capote
‘The baddest little good girl’
CAPOTE, Truman. Breakfast at Tiffany’s: A Short Novel and Three Stories. New York: New American Library, 1959. Signet Books.
First Signet edition (stated first printing, November 1959 to the copyright page), paperback, reprint of the hardcover edition originally published by Random House in1958.
Truman Capote's evocative novella set in 1940s New York featuring the captivating heroine, Holly Golightly, a country girl from Texas who fashions herself into a glamorous New York playgirl, and whose ultimate fate remains a mystery. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of the quintessential American stories of the 20th century.
This Signet edition predates the 1961 film adaptation with Audrey Hepburn, and it provides fascinating art and blurbs, such as: ‘She’s Holly Golightly, and she’s just eighteen – the baddest little good girl you’ve ever seen.’ The cover art shows Holly as a cross between Lolita and Marilyn Monroe. Capote picked Monroe to play Holly in the movie version of Breakfast at Tiffany's, but Paramount double-crossed him and cast Audrey Hepburn instead.
