Fifth and final reprint of Hugh Thomson's perennially popular ‘Peacock Edition’ of Jane Austen’s beloved novel. The exuberant gilt peacock design on the front cover first appeared in 1894 and was repeated in the 1895, 1903, 1905, and 1906 editions, all of which included Thomson’s illustrations in the text, as seen here.
xxvii, [1], 476, [2] pp. 8vo (178 × 120 mm), original decorative cloth, gilt, teg. Spine lightly faded. Circular stamp on front free endpaper of the ’Maynard Smith and Outram Smith library’. A bright and beautiful copy.
Provenance: This copy is from the library of two Anglican clergymen bibliophiles and collectors, Herbert Maynard Smith (1869-1949) and J. Outram Smith (1871-1954).
