Cecil Beaton’s Fair Lady (First US edition)
Cecil Beaton’s Fair Lady. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1964
First American edition. Illustrations and dust jacket by Cecil Beaton.
8vo, original cloth. 128 pp. colour frontis, b/w photos, text drawings. Gift inscription to front endpaper. Very good in very good dust jacket (short, closed tear to foot of spine; not price clipped with the original $4.95 price on the front flap).
Cecil Beaton’s greatest stage success was to design costumes and sets for the Broadway musical My Fair Lady in 1956. He repeated this success when he spent a year in Hollywood in 1963 working on the film adaptation of My Fair Lady, starring Audrey Hepburn. For his costume design and art direction he won two Oscars.
‘In these marvellously entertaining pages, Cecil Beaton’s witty pen has recorded the strains, satisfactions, delights, and despairs of making a major movie, while his pencil has sketched the stars behind the scenes, and his camera recorded pictures of the film in progress.’ (From the blurb on the dust jacket)
