His career in the British Secret Service began with lunch with a stranger at the Royal Automobile Club in London in 1938 and lasted until the end of the Second World War. he seven years described in this book give a fascinating glimpse into the life of an agent operating in places such as Poland, Romania, and Yugoslavia.
