A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water, and The Broken Road - Patrick Leigh-Fermor Mixed Set Signed
FERMOR, Patrick Leigh. A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water, and The Broken Road. London: John Murray, 1977, 1986, 2013.
Mixed set, complete in 3 volumes. A Time of Gifts and The Broken Road – first editions, first printings. Between the Woods and the Water – second impression, signed by the author.
3 volumes (pp. 291; 248; xxi, 362; b/w portrait frontis, maps). 8vo, original cloth. First volume with elusive errata slip loosely inserted. Very good in dust-jackets. A Time of Gifts with dust-jacket just faintly sunned (as usual) and lightly spotted on flaps and rear panel. First two volumes with jacket design by John Craxton (1922-2009), third volume with jacket design by Ed Kluz in the style of Craxton.
One of twentieth-century classics, this trilogy chronicles the author’s youthful adventures during his epic trans-European walk in the 1930s. Highlights include unforgettable descriptions of Germany, Vienna, and Transylvania before the Second World War and the fall of the Iron Curtain. A cross between Byron, Indiana Jones, and James Bond, Patrick Leigh Fermor (1915-2011) was a heroic wartime SOE officer, and one of the finest and most fascinating writers in British letters.
