The book is a free-form Baedeker to New York City by Anita Loos, author of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Helen Hayes, the distinguished actress known as the first lady of American theatre. Chapters include: “Pots of Gold at Both Sides of the Rainbow” about the authors’ visit to the sub-basements of the Federal Reserve where they peer at piles of gold bricks; “Getting Lost in New York Is a Pleasure”, and “Trash Can Be Beautiful”.
344pp, b/w photos, illus. endpapers. 8vo, original cloth, slightly worn, top corners bumped, a couple of old marks to fore-edge. Previous ownership inscription to front endpaper. Dust jacket with some wear to extremities, old faint stain to foot of spine/front face, light creases to flaps. A good copy. Loosely inserted is the Life magazine review, titled “The Loos and Hayes Expedition”.
