Film based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin. Lobby card features Julie Harris, the first on-screen Sally Bowles, wearing a sequined tuxedo-like costume recalling Marlene Dietrich’s in Blonde Venus (1932).
Isherwood described Julie Harris’ Sally Bowles as ‘a bohemian Joan of Arc, battling to defend her way of life from the bourgeoisie’. (Christopher and His Kind, p. 63)
