Charming Regency miniature book (58×37mm) bound in original wallet-style red leather with tongue flap to close. [26] pp; engraved titled page showing the arms of the City of London ringed with the title and date; 6 pp of engraved views of New Custom House. All edges gilt. Pink endpapers and coin pocket at the back. With the required red revenue tax stamp with price and the word Almanack to the title page.
Continuously published for over 200 years from 1690 to 1885, the London Almanack series of miniature books were beautifully produced by the Company of Stationers and were popular both as presents and for everyday use.
This Amanack opens with engraved views of the London New Custom House. The pages contain the calendar with a list of religious dates, information on the sun, moon and tides at London Bridge; a table of the kings and queens of England with the dates of their reigns; a table of lord mayors and sheriffs. The almanack closes with a list of holidays, a reference of current coins, and eclipses.
