Nico in Fellini's La Dolce Vita
LA DOLCE VITA. Astor Pictures, 1961. NICO (starring); FEDERICO FELLINI (director, screenwriter).
Original photograph for the US release of the 1960 film, featuring Nico (centre) in the ghost-hunting scene set in an old, abandoned palace.
Nico (1938-1988) was a German model, actress, and singer-songwriter. Her unforgettable cameo in La Dolce Vita brought her recognition among artistic circles around the world. In the mid-1960s she moved to New York, where she became an important player in Andy Warhol’s Factory. She collaborated with Warhol’s band, the Velvet Underground, on their debut album, and went on to release several acclaimed solo albums of her own.
When Nico went on a visit on the set of La Dolce Vita at Cinecitta in Rome, Fellini spotted her and said to her: ‘‘I have dreamt of you. I recognize your face. You will look wonderful with candlelight. You must be a star in La Dolce Vita.’” (You are Beautiful and You Are Alone: The Biography of Nico, 2021).
21x25cm. Very good with some edge-wear and creasing.
